Re: A lawyer who rejects scientific methods is....

"So if a sound system came along which proved it could produce sound indistinguishable from live music through a DBT, you would not buy it or trade for it because it would not be as enjoyable as the distorted sound you prefer."

Well, my first question would be whether that system would accomplish the same results in my room. Then I would want to hear it in my room and determine whether I liked it better. I'm not sure a live orchestra would sound very good in my room.

"Now I get it. I'll bet I'd get a lot of enjoyment from an old juke box and I certainly got a lot of enjoyment from the first phonograph I had as a child. Who knows, maybe more than from my current sound system. After all, as you pointed out, there is no way to measure enjoyment. Enjoy your juke box."

Interesting comment, even if it was intended to be sarcastic (I won't throw any stones at you for that as my glass house can't stand many more cracks). I have historically been biased against mp3, even though I never had listened to it - I was sure it would be a step backwards.

A few months ago I bought an mp3 player to use at the gym, and then I discovered Rhapsody which gives me unlimited downloads for $15 a month. I was like a kid in a candy store.

Getting past my prejudice I found I really enjoyed listening to the mp3 player. Then I discovered the Roku Music Bridge at Best Buy. I hooked it to my DAC and home network and I've got Rhapsody available in my dedicated two channel system and I hooked up another to run through my HT/general home system. It's not exactly a step all the way back to my first wind-up 78 player (which I enjoyed as much as any piece of gear I ever owned), but I enjoy the vast access I now have to music and the ability to explore many artists and types of music that I wouldn't have in my pre-mp3 days. My enjoyment factor has risen considerably as a result.

Please pardon my rambling, but your comment triggered some reflection about my recent discovery of the wonders of mp3.
