You say:But in reality I doubt if even those enamored with DBT follow their reasoning when buying.
---
Do I qualify as one "enamored" with DBT's?I have said specifically that I do not audition equipment for purchase blind. Hello? Hey, you can have the best sounding amplifier in the world, but if it's 1000x your budget, and has flashing purple and green searchlights built into it, you ain't gonnna buy it, are you? (The examples are extreme, but the point isn't. Things like the maker's name, knowlege of reliability, appearance, DO matter, don't they, now?)
You also say: Given their grave concern about being ripped off, I suspect they buy the cheapest and rationalize that there is no need to buy anything better as people would not be able to really hear any improvement.
---
Of exactly whom are you speaking?Where does this "grave concern about being ripped off" come from? This is a straw man, mate, you made that one up.
As to "buy the cheapest", well, you're demonstrably wrong if you see what I own at home (I actually can say what it is, nowdays, I use a pair of Snell C-V's, a Hafler P3000, and a B&K (the Buffalo B&K, not the Danish one) Preamp. Sources vary. No, that's not "audiophile" for the most part, but it's far from the cheapest, either.
What is is is reliable, clean, and very good sounding.
You made this one up, guy. That's not nice.
As to this asylum being immaterial, then why are you here making things up and insulting people? Is this constructive?
