Nice post

In particular, I think you are dead on in your assessment of the initial reactions that some of us had to Michael Bishop's bombshell, and that's what it was. (Not to mention that it was seemingly nonchalant). It came out of nowhere and, initially, with no explanation. The reactions came from several different perspectives. I for one was completely nonplussed, primarily for the reasons that Christine articulated. And at one critical point it appeared that even the deeply held tenets involving the positioning of the LF and RF speakers were no longer sacred. That clearly added to the flames.

But for me, in the end, this has been a particularly illuminating thread. Michael Bishop's explanation's and contributions have been thorough and that they reflect the real world I'm all for taking advantage of the information. To be sure, the issues raised are not settled. One can say that answers are still evolving.

But on the bright side, for me, shaping my environment to accommodate 110 degrees has been a *real* burden. Experimenting with any positioning greater than 120 degrees is a real snap. I'm very happy about that.

Another critical point has become confirmed for me. That is, at a minimum, as long as due care in given to keep all speakers equidistant from the listening position, almost regardless of the "degrees" of the rears, that you can have a fulfilling experience, one that surpasses a two-channel system of comparable quality. It can just get better beyond that.
