I've only had an opportunity to read about half the document but there’s some very useful information here. Actually, in some respects it's *too much* information from the standpoint that you see buck-naked the lowest common denominator from which consumer audio decisions are made. In many respects the basis is decidedly rooted in mid-fi. It's sort of like learning how sausage is made. Not very pretty, but it can taste (sound) very good.
As far as the evolution of multi-channel recording techniques and specifically the latest thinking on optimum rear channel positioning, it's all right by me. People, industries, learn and change. It's life in the big city. Since I'm still in the experimental stages of my multi-channel set-up I'm probably more accepting of change.
Besides if you are adventurous enough to attempt to build a good sounding SACD multi-channel music system you probably blessed with a congenital propensity toward the progressive and welcomes change. Certainly beats being stuck with the bag of a mono, vinyl, or two-channel "purist".
