Is there a "standard" room?

There is in the "ideal" condition as referenced in both NARAS and ITU. I'm fairly syure I don't have an ideal room, and I don't thionk I have my stereo speakers in close to an ideal placement scenario. However, I've looked at and learned from the ideas behind the recommendations made for placements of both surround and stereo rigs, and the fact that I've chosen not to adhere to them doesn't have me reaching for the gun. In fact, I'm very happy with how things are, as the system sounds wonderful to me, and the room works for all the other stuff it has to function for...;)

I don't think Michael is backtracking: I think he's pushing the point that these are recommendations, or guidelines, but not hard rules
