Hi Mikey,I can't agree more. I started with 2nd hand solid state 600W (bridged) Class A Gryphons on my MLs but before I took delivery I heard 2nd hand ARC tubed amps and ended up using them for the ESL's and mid bass towers with the Gryphons driving the subs. Also trialled huge Classe Omega monos but solid state always sounded edgy.
After modifying the heck out od the ARCs, (as you know) today my relatively small home brew 38W 845 SETs run the top end and I use cheapo 650W solid states to run the subs. Best sound I've ever had, way more relaxed yet much better detail. But solid state running the subs is a must.
