I have had the DeCapo's for about a month now, and they are finally settling in (er, I've finally figured out where to put them, and what gear they like!). The Thiel CS6 is always going to do some things better than a smaller speaker (like the 1.6, or smaller yet the DeCapo's)--bass being the most notable trait. I have heard well-driven CS6's and they are POWERFUL in the nether regions. I suppose that's the point of huge behemoth speakers, though. But the DeCapo does some things so right--they are rhythmically fast, hugely dynamic, delicate and sweet... The more I listen the more I find to like. Initially I missed the bass of my ProAc D25's. But balancing placement, speaker height, etc has given me a very tonally satisfying presentation, although the sound is QUITE different from my ProAc's.
You are right, the DeCapo has no crossover. They only have a resistor on the tweeter to keep it from frying itself with low frequencies. There is no ferrofluid cooling in the tweeter. This is a very simple speaker--something what I would expect a single full-range driver to sound like, with a better tonal balance given the extended bass and top end capability of the separate drivers.
The DeCapo, as I alluded to above, was somewhat more picky in my room than other speakers. Because the woofer is effectively coupled directly to the amp, they really take on the character of the amplifier. They seem to really like my new Rogue Tempest II, well after I replaced my MIT speaker cable (I settled on Analysis Plus Silver Oval). And they really don't sound right toed in, as every reviewer has mentioned. Setup properly, they are very transparent and the only weakness I can spot is a bit of darkness in one area of the midrange. I haven't quite put my finger on it, but cable and tube choice have a great effect and I've arrived at a felicitous combination that seems to play up their strengths.
I am left with the feeling that the DeCapo's are a bit like a difficult lover--they like some real care and attention in setup, but reward you with a level of "rightness" that needs to be heard and experienced. Pretty cool, and I'm happy to spend some time with them.
Have fun...
