Hi.

Fluid cooling - easy & efficient.

Here is what I do to cool down ANYthing while soldering, either point to point, or on PCBs, using Q-tips soaked with distilled water (available in bulk plastic bottle affordably in grocery stores).
An even cheaper substitute is FILTERED tap water.

For multi-pin SMDs (surface mounted devices) where the leads are too many & too short for any Q-tip or whatever hardwares to squeeze in,
simply use a soaked Q-tip to soak up the whole device, chip or transistors alike, 'flooding' all the pins or leads on the upper side of the PCB before soldering on the flip side of the board. Always solder with the wetted PCB surface facing vertically downward (clamp it own in position), to avoid water backing up onto the soldering side.

It works bigtime without fail - for me. Bonus to this practice is you can ensure shiny beaded joints by providing adequate time for the solder tip to do its job. Mind you good soldering needs
the right melting & curing time.

Always dry up the parts with a DRY Q-tip locally before next jointing.
