Home Tape Trail

Reel to reel, cassette and other analogue tape formats.

OK, I'll move to the PC Audio forum, but ...

in the meantime, whether here, there, or privately by e-mail I'd be interested in your advice.

Naturally I understand that the options depend on the budget; the only problem is that, as usual, the buget also depends on the options.
The original idea was not to exceed $250, but a more correct question would be where the best value for money around that budget is. By the way, unless there are specific reasons not to in this particular instance, I almost always buy used equipment.

Another thing to keep in mind, I suppose, is that I don't need features: I'd rather have simplicity, and quality in so far as I can afford it.
In fact, I would seriously consider recording in mono, which intuitively should mean having an easier microphone placement and a lower cost. I've always felt that stereo is overrated for recording a solo piano, and I can live without for the trio too.
