Re: Yea so what's that got to do with faithful reproduction?

["Though I do agree an individuals experiences are a shifting baseline and the debate should be about faithful reproduction which is a fixed reality."]

Faithful reproduction is a perception that we often acknowledge as preference. I say it's fluid. You insist it's fixed. From my perspective, your 'fixed' posturing has a rigidity that stifles creative problem solving. Admittedly, I view system building as a equation. Faithful reproduction is the answer. What is there to debate, my preferences or yours?

["The reality is that we have to guess and estimate the reality behind most audio recordings because we don't and can never know. This is the effect of having an ill-defined stereo format."]

I have little use for "guess and estimate", for the reason you mentioned. I don't blame stereo no more than not being present during the recording session.

["Your comments fail to support your proposal that faithful reproduction is a fluid perceptual reality - and that's the point of contention."]

Frankly, the point of contention is a failure to affirm, what's fixed in your mind. This is evident in your subsequent conclusion.

["The reality behind each and every recording is fixed and unchanging and thus faithful reproduction is fixed and constant not fluid and never will be."]

This is wrong on many levels. I'll just say, not all recordings are faithful reproductions. Some artists and producers acknowledge this via remasters.

You're probably right, "it's doubtful we will ever fully agree.".
