Relative to current technology, science fiction is not real.

Faithful reproduction is the original quest that spawned audiophiles.

[Why stand on and designate it as audio science?
"Depends on what "it" is."]

"It", is fantasy. Standing on fantasies is perilous.

["For far and away most audiophiles (myself included) the objective use of realism is way too difficult a path to follow. But this doesn't precluded many of them from using it as a justification for their equipment purchases. Like anything else audio - it figures!"]

Realism is not difficult, it's a sure path to fantasy. As such, subsequent equipment purchases reinforces notions I find unstable. Saying, "it figures", is another way of resigning to the acceptance of a phantom directive.
