No, I'm advocating that speakers be engineered. That means people design them have to look at the kinds of rooms they are likely to be installed in, figure out what different ways the rooms can affect the sound their customer hears, and devise means built into the product to compensate for it so that the end result is more or less the same under the widest possible conditions of use. But I'm not holding my breath waiting. I'll say it here and now, most of the people who design high fidelity loudspeakers today are very poor engineers if they are engineers at all. And rather than sit around lamenting the fact waiting for competent ones to come along, I've been busily re-engineering my own so that they actually do compensate for their particular environment. And IMO, I've done quite well with it. Maybe I'll take my own advice to John Curl, bottle it, and see if I can't make some money out of it.
