"I was just taking a swig of Coors light when I read this line and nearly asphyxiated it!"I always knew your tastes in beer would be about the same as your tastes in audio equipment....cat pee. Me, I'm a Sam Adams man myself but I'll occasionally have a Guinness Stout, a Becks, or a black and tan. On a hot day in St. Maarten, even a Heineken tastes great and the street vendors sell it for just a dollar...just the way they sell soda pop and ice cream here.
" Theory is a great place to start, but I choose to form my opinions based upon direct experience."
Has it ever occurred to you that scientists start with a theory and test it by seeing whether or not experience supports it or refutes it and if it refutes it, they have to come up with another theory consistant with the new experience? That's what science is about. Understanding that is where learning about engineering begins.
"mtrycraft was the undisputed king of speculating things outside his frame of reference."
Yes he got under the skin of a lot of people who called themselves "subjectivists." I don't recall his thread about long cables though. I don't read most threads on most boards, only the ones which interest me. A lot of people said he didn't even own an audio system, just a boombox. I assume you meant he is at audioholics and not alcoholics (anonymous.) But I do hope if he does drink, he does much better for himself than Coors Lite.
Do you remember a poster who used the moniker WARRENWARREN? He claimed to be an electrical engineer with a master's degree and a candidate for a PHD in RF technology. Then one day he accidently revealed (demonstrated) that he didn't know the difference between the mathematical models for twisted pair cables and coaxial cables. He then admitted he was only a technician, blubbered on about how he loved his job, his family, his wife, and his new baby, and started a long diversionary thread about flipping quarters and the odds of heads and tails. Then he left quietly into the cyber night never to be heard from again. That board was once a lot of fun for people who had brains and knowledge. Now it's just a mental sandbox for toddlers where the topic for the day is invariably, which HT system at Costco is best for the money. How can you stand it? Oh, I forgot, that's where you can lord it over them. At least you're not like JR whose motto is "off with his head." In a way, I can sympathize with him though. In his shoes, I'd have banned Steve Eddy on general principle too.
