"If you are prior inclined to believe that something could not work, your beliefs will color what you hear also.Of course. Bias effects run both ways. and certainly the most compelling experiences are the ones that run contrary to our expectations. But the point still stands that Mrs. Belt seems to be in denial of the reality of bias effects. I am one who says bias effects are a reality and we should accept them for what they are.
" I guess I am painting you with the same brush I would paint Mr. Austin with, but hey you jumped into the fray."What brush would that be? What assumptions are you making?
"But the real issue, I think, is why you care whether people delude themselves."Ooooh did you read my post carefully?
"Is it your responsibility to save them?"Gosh no. I am all for maximum listening pleasure. If bias effects, placebo effects are enhancing that pleasue i have no problem with that at all. I don't even have a problem with people selling poducts that have no other effect than a placebo. There is nothing wrong, illegal, immoral or unethical with people being affected by placebo effects and turning around and marketing that to others. OTOH when these manufacturers start making claims of cause and effect they are usually making claims tht are scientifically varifiable. At that point they are subject to scutiny. Why not? and when it goes further, to the point of fraud then I think policing is called for.
"Who appointed you?"Who appointed you as their protector? Dude, it's forum where people express their opinions. Deal with it.
" If you are out to stop hype to increase sales, lots of luck living in a capitalist society. If you want to justify why you don't buy certain products, save your time as we are not interested."Dude, you really need to get a clue. you are making all kinds of bizarre asumptions about me and my beliefs.
"I would like to hear some of the Belt tweaks in a demonstration but most are too expensive and time consuming to give them a try."
I have had demos here in my own home. I didn't hear a difference. So I didn't buy the products. If others hear differences, be they real or imagined, I am all for letting them enjoy it. If the Belts are merely honest peopele subject to placebos and selling those placebos unknowingly, fine. If they make technical claims then those claims are subject to scrutiny as to the truth of those claims. Are you against that?
