With respect, the answer is indeed "No." The Mencken quote someone posted sums it up pretty well, IMO. But you're right in one respect: I don't lump together, or didn't intend to, the liars and cheats with the honest folks. My "mission"--and in this sense I guess the label missionary fits--is merely to speak the truth as I see it. I'm not really out to convert anybody, which to me is an important distinction. I'm aiming to set the record--not other people--straight. I said my piece in the magazine over a year ago, as well as I could. Ever since I've just been trying to defend what I wrote--which is probably a mistake, one that I intend not to continue to make.
