Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

It's amazing to watch you jump to conclusions.......

"BTW, it is not at all reasonable to "suggest that there is more than a 3db difference on transients" unless one of the amps is a truly poor design. Throw that one in the trash."

Dude, for an amp to be 3db louder than say, a 250 WPC amplifier, it would have to be twice as powerful. If both amps can safely double their power into a four ohm load from an 8 ohm load- which both amps can, then there is no reason to doubt that the more powerful amp won't clip before the less powerful amp will.

Also, many people find that significantly more powerful amplifiers sound more dynamic and effortless. This is a common description from even novices who move up significantly in power. That's because, contrary to your faulty opinions, a 3db increase or decrease in loudness is quite noticable.

"And some digital amps can have load problems with certain speakers that would exactly sound the way you describe."

Not the one I'm evaluating. Also, my speakers are pretty easy for any amp to drive. However, why don't you tell us which 500 WPC digital amps have problems with which speakers? I'd be interested in knowing how you came by this information.
