The answer is pretty simple. Placebos generally don't work when they are not believed. I think the big question is why do they still work sometimes even when the subject believes they are placebos. This IMO is the big question and one that objectivists seem to want to ignore.

Thourough? LOL there is next to nothing on the subject. Real scientific research is expensive and there is precious little of it that directly examines the world of high end audio playback. If you ever catch an objectivist touting science simply ask him for the scientific research supporting his beliefs. end of conversation. Why? Cause there aint any. The dark objectivist secret.

I think the root of that debate is the misrepresentation of science on behalf of objectivists and the utter ignorance of science on the side of subjectivists. I mean really, how many subjectivists would even ague with objectivists if they knew there was no peer reviewed scientific studies showing that amps or cables sound alike? To bad really. I think the objectivists' misrepresentations of science has lead to subjectivists' mistrust of science.
