Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Re: You might forward your comments to Bill Whitlock...

I won't comment the pages further like I did above. On an higher view, although the content of this presentation is often refreshing and interesting, it shows two weaknesses:
  1. Which auditory is this presentation intended for? End users, audio gear users without any knowledge in electricity (pages 1 to 12) , audio gear users with some electronic/electricity knowledge (13 to 27) , then EE working in other areas, then EE involved in design.
It is obvious when you note on page 24 the complete absence of reference to common mode input impedance (and also common mode input impedance), although it is the core topic addressed in this presentation later.
  2. He begins wide (the whole Grounding art, which is well addressed now and is the subject of many books), so wide that he has to talk about topic he has to give up right now (page 11 about lighning), but in this case giving details like the 25 ohms is tipically an EE foible.
Then he narrows his subject, gives up the Art of Grounding, talks about unbalanced/balanced interconnects.
Only there (page 30) does he begin the real topic of his presentation: the virtues of his InGenius system then the virtues of transformer isolation and level translating.
I won't say this presentation is marketing hype, which would be really wrong (for example, his talk about Wheastone bridge was enlighting), but his presentation has many rust spots, which went corroded by tentative marketization of an honest technical presentation.
I much did prefer THAT corp application notes.
