Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

You are a nitwit

I don't know who you consulted or what you told them but not only is your knowledge nil, I'll say it again, your advice is dangerous and reckless and you should stick to areas you do know something about like teaching history or english lit or whatever it is you do.

The NEC code has evolved for nearly 100 years for one purpose only and that is electrical safety. It's the reason there are so few electrical fires and electrocutions in the US compared to the rest of the world. The grounding chapter is by far the largest because it is by far the most important. It's there to save lives. If your stereo buzzes a little because of it, so what? You can live with that. I make my livelihood designing and installing these kinds of system and I'm happy to say that not one single person on any of my countless projects has ever been seriously hurt or killed as a result of an electrical accident. I've seen more hairbrained grounding schemes than I can count including from other EEs and even electricians. You wouldn't believe some of the moronic things I've seen myself let alone heard of. And I've seen the tragic results of other people's mistakes too. When someone who read a few articles in magazines, a few slick ads, and then starts giving advice about many things, they may just cost people wasted time, money and disappointment in most areas but in this area it can also cost them their lives. As I said elsewhere, I don't know who I'd consider dumber, untrained people who give this kind of advice, or people who follow it. Stick to history or English lit or whatever it is you teach. Leave electrical grounding to the National electrical code, licensed electricians, and building inspectors.
