Thanks everyone for the input. My concerns were not over just audio per se, but our home office's computers, printers, LAN, phone bank, as well as TV and other appliances. The main reason for my seeming pasranoia is that although code is usually followed for parts, etc., the assembly (roper torquing of connections, etc) is pretty shoddy almost everywhere.I just got off the phone with the electrical inspector. He recommended replacing the "code" 8' galvanized grounding rod with a 20' copper-clad rod which will hit the water table. Packing diatomaceous earth/Terra-fill is probably superfluous, but otherwise OK. Surge/lightning protection will also be installed at that time.
Since I've general contracted a previous home, I learned how the schmooz inspectors into giving recommendations for good electricians. The electrician he recommended was also recommended by an audio/video store in town. In speaking with the electrician, he was familiar with my issues and has done similar work in my area.
I'll be having the work done later this month when I'll be down there. The electrician's going to bring a to bring a null-balance earth tester and do a 3-point fall of potential before and after the new rod is in place. Additionally, he'll be checking for proper tightening of the other wiring at the panel.
I'll post more whenI get back.
