Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

I normally don't respond to your nonsense but in matters of electrical safety....

...The National Electrical Code is a subchapter of the National Fire Code and is written for insurance companies. It's sole purpose as stated in its first page or two is to assure protection of life and property. It does not guarantee an efficient or even adequate electrical installation, it just promises a safe one. It is adopted into law by most but not all jurisdictions, noteworthy exceptions include New York City which has its own code. The code official who is responsible for enforcement is an excellent source of knowledge because he is not only trained and has his knowledge periodically updated by required additional formal classroom training, in some jurisdictions (I'm sure of NJ) he is also legally liable along with contractors for the consequences of a mistake if he failed to catch it. It's one thing to screw around with audio equipment and blow it up if you don't know what you are doing, but it's quite another when there is the potential for burning down your house and electrocuting your family. Only a fool would take chances in this area if he does not know what he is doing and that includes taking advice from know it all strangers on the internet.
