What if you didn't want to hear a difference?

There are many times when I prefer not to hear a difference because it would greatly lessen my inventory and save me time. If I do, however, I try to source the cause of the audible difference. It takes time and a lot of experimentation to narrow the actual source of the sonic difference.
Now, if some one comes in and says 'I hear something different', and says it is positive, with out any prompting on my part, then I consider that a true blind test. I also have had people move things around, unknown to to myself and I can hear a change, but sometimes it takes a few hours to figure out exactly what was changed. Again a true blind test.
Bias can work both ways, and I have witnessed both ends of the spectrum. I once demostrated a tweek to a digital designer and he promptly put down the idea saying his new transport was so good such tweeks could not affect the data pickup. Another manufacturer happened to be in the room and asked to listen in. The first guy upon using the tweek said " See, I told you, there is no sonic difference at all." The second guy asked for a sample and actually came out with a similar product a year or so later.
