It would appear that such is only used in scholarly circles and not deemed useful in commerce, even for those who would benefit from the apparent results.Or else the message is "we think we've figured out how much content we can remove from your music and believe you'll never know the difference!" That is clearly the objective for MPEG schemes. Which is entirely fine for when audio quality is not critical, eg voice, etc.
