I'm an industrial engineer. Part of the job is to figure out how long it actually takes to do stuff. The funny part is that you are rarely interested in what people think you're interested in (in a factory you are rarely interested in how long it takes to make a widget and much more interested in how long the widgets sit between stations not being worked on, etc). But people think you're timing them to set some sort of a piece parts standard so they almost always slow down. Not good for accurate data. So I stand behind one person with my stop watch and look clear across the factory and time the furthest person away I can see. Everyone thinks I'm timing the near person.
