Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

For the Bored

I too saw and posted a response in the original thread yesterday, and I too am a little disturbed at its disappearance.

I don't object to moving things to a different forum if that forum is considered more appropriate. I don't object to closing a thread if it has become nasty. I do object to the removal of a whole thread which contained nothing contentious which I could see, without any mention of why that has occurred.

If something in the thread transgressed the rules, then that should be dealt with and removing the offending post is appropriate, but the message involved should be replaced by a notice saying why it was removed, otherwise how are inmates going to appreciate just what the rules are.

The only possible reason I could see which could be advanced for the removal of the original thread is the one relating to use of copyright material which states:

"You can't post copyrighted material or a reproduction of registered trade/service marks without permission from the author or owner. For example, this means that, without prior permission, you may not post a verbatim copy of an equipment review from an audio magazine or e-zine, or an image of a manufacturer's trademarked logo."

I don't think that rule was applicable for the following reasons:

- posting of selected quotes does not constitute a 'verbatim copy'; and
- copyright law allows publication of quotes for critical purposes - brief quotes were made and criticised so it would seem that the use made of copyright material was legal, and I have seen other threads where such use of copyright material was allowed.

As for transferring Clark's current post to Propeller Head Plaza, that raises an interesting question. The role of this forum is "Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics" so I feel impelled to ask whether a discussion of what happened to a particular post, which is what Clark's post here is about, is regarded as a 'technical and scientific' discussion' though I will admit that it does count as something that is an 'other topic'.
