Jim Austin, I want my apology! I have asked for it for many months now. What's wrong with you?
YOU attempted to besmirch my reputation in audio by quoting me from this website, regarding the nature of audio 'tweaks' such as the chip.
You have been attacked, in kind, by Charles Hansen, Don T and many others for having such a silly view as to dismiss something without trying it, when others have testified that there appears to be something to it.
Look, I don't care if it is 'the power of prayer' to improve your hi fi system or something similar: If you haven't first tried it, and have made a serious attempt to investigate it, leave it alone.
In the case of the chip: I was 'cursed' by having it shown and demonstrated to me at the CES, when surrounded by other, even 'better hearing', audio professionals, like Bob Crump and Brian Walsh. I am pretty sure that I heard the damn thing! Of course, even though it is on record that I initially politely rejected the very concept of the chip, (see Clark Johnsen's comments in 'Positive Feedback), I did have an intelligent conversation with both Clark and David Glackin (PhD physicist, who now works at NASA and JPL) about the chip. David did not condemn the chip, out of hand. Why you? What gives YOU that right?
Now, can I be absolutely sure that I heard the effects of the chip? NO. Did I go out and buy a few for my CD collection? NO. I have never even seen the chip since that day at the CES. Why? Well I don't like CD much anyway, and I haven't used my CD-SACD player more than once or twice in the last 10 months. I like video and vinyl. I have never liked the sound of CD's.
Then why did I 'defend' the chip on this website? I defended the concept of 'tweaks and mods' that don't have any discernable reason for being important. You have attempted to 'trash' the very concept, and both you and John Atkinson have 'Drawn a line in the sand' , so to speak, that no one should cross. Well that's not reality, Dr. Austin.
