If there is one thing I do now it is the middle ground!The discussion has long ago become quite sterile: if there is no science, there are no sound systems; if you limit it to only science you will miss out on some great sounding components.
If speaker design was not reduced to a bunch of equations years ago and if tossing OEM component into a box wasn't simple enough as manufacturing goes, would we have the proliferation of speaker companies we now have? On the other hand, some speakers do sound better than others. And no, I can't give proportions as between science and art, but it has to start with a great big dose of reliable scientific knowledge, the rest is icing on the cake.
