>>middle of the road vs. the two extremes?I think that such pigeon holing is mostly a bunch of BS. But I think it's pretty obvious Jim Austin is not in the middle of the road or open minded and neither is Stereophile, for printing their beliefs that a manufacturer's product product were/are a fraud without even listening to the product - especially when other audio professional had listened and reported postitive results prior to their accusations.
It's possible to deal with these kinds of things, or things we are suspicious or skeptical of without making such charges. If I didn't think Stereophile was reeling from the heat of the DBT and Charles Hansen hadn't made his post over in Critics Corner I would have missed this point all together. I think it's pretty damn disgusting that Stereophile (who publishes varied, diverse and highly questionable recommended components list mostly just to sell magazines)would resort to this kind of selective objectivism to restore some semblence of objective credibility without regard to the damage it may cause Machina Dynamica, the manufacturers of the GSIC and the many listeners who've reported hearing differences after using the chip.
Give me rhythm or give me death!
