It wasn't until I moved away from those modern, minituarized low esr electrolytic caps and back to power supply topologies that the tube crowd has been using effectively for over half a century, ones that don't involve using banks of "fast" electrolytic caps, but instead chokes and small, tightly wound film caps, that I rediscovered how musical my system could sound. That's what blew me away, but not with thoughts of transient response, and slam, and dynamics ... just thoughts of how beautiful and effortless the music sounds.I followed the "wrong" path for a few years until doing some testing on old electrolytic capacitors, compared to some of the newer ones that many were touting, and finding how much better the older, bigger ones sounded. And then finding areas in my circuits that had previously sounded better and better the more electrolytic capacitance I added, now benefitted from a much smaller but better sounding cap. And that eventualy led to engineering all of the electrolytics out of my circuits, even in the turntable power supply. It all helps. But that's just my story :-)
