Hi C-JPleased to hear of your successful project. Battery-fed DC can be one solution for minimising noise.
On the other hand, a good friend of mine (unofficial honorary Doctorate in Audio Philosophy) purchased a high-profile, highly-priced battery-fed phono pre-amp some time ago, without auditioning it, as he'd been convinced by Stereofool's review and Class "A" rating. It's now gathering dust, while he enjoys a custom-built valve phono pre-amp. Like others I've auditioned in over 30 years in audio, dynamics and PRaT seem somewhat understated in all battery-fed phono stages. Perhaps there isn't that instantaneous, unlimited current draw necessary to accurately reproduce dynamic peaks? Anyhow, thanks for your input. Happy listening!
