Thanks for your suggestions. Your theoretical logic is irrefutable. But my ears tell me otherwise. Sorry, battery-fed DC is not an option for me. Also in my present system, electrolytics are an unavoidable part of life. One day, longevity permitting, I might learn enough about electronics and circuit design to be both daring and dangerous, thereby plotting the demise of all electros in sight!

Also may I humbly suggest it is unwise to lump *all* electros/caps in one unwholesome bundle, ready for recycling. There are a few types and brands that actually have a positive effect on audio quality, viz, Sanyo OS-CON, Rubycon Black Gate and Panasonic FM. Sure, the majority suck, mostly acting as veils, distorters and tone controls.
