Use battery PS for yr OP-amp phonostage, please.

Hi.

You are opening a can of worms. For 15V OP-amp phonostage built on a small PCB? Beat the hassle of Schotty diodes, large 'lytic caps, chip regulators, etc etc, let alone the hum/"ringing & noise" generated if not built properly.

Last month I finished building a dual-monoral SS phonostage, housed in a tiny plastic equipment box 5"X2.75"x2". To many , this would be a mission-impossible to house a dual-monoral phonostage (-17VDC) in such small box I found sleeping in my part bin for ages.

So I decided to use 9V alkaline batteries (2x9V for each channel)
for dead quiet pure DC supply for the phonostage. Bye to hum & ringing noises.

Guess how I did it to house the RIAA PCB, 1x4uF & 1x10uF PE film couple caps, 2uF PE film cap/0.01uF PP film caps for battery bypass, battery voltage check-points & LED pilot lamp, 0.01uF3KV ceramic disc cap for grounding, for EACH channel, alumimum foil shielding lamination throughout the interior of the plastic box, etc etc etc.

It works fine & sounds decent. No noticeable hum when sticking my ear against the woofer diaphragm at full voltage with turntbabe turning. I consider the mission-impossible accomplished.

Battery PS, no 'lytic caps are the key contribution to the success of this mission.
