Bose in 1996 had a recommended speaker from Hi-Fi Choice magazine in the 305.Bose is hit and miss and the price is what bothered some audiophiles. I knew one guy with the 901s who was swearing up and down about them and I let him listen to a B&W 302 (the entry level non Kevlar non metal tweeter $225.00US standmount. He sold his 901s. These were newer ones mind you but the price performance of new 901s at around $1500.00 is very very poor.
Whatever some think Bose once was - they are not anymore. 30 years ago the 901 may have been very novel - but the revamped version (and that is what MOST people listen to and DOG) are just that dogs.
Companies who are the least bit interested in sound improve their products - Bose has not done that - they charge more and offer less - but they have nice television adverts.
