I don't get why the reversal of bias should require unequal resistances (if the tube is considered linear). I feel I am missing an important fundamental concept. I suppose I assumed that (need for unequal resistance) was because the transformer wasn't "ideally balanced".

P.S. It just occured to me I misunderstood your post. But still I'd like to hear why unequal resistance is needed with perfect tubes and transformer.
