how do you apply kirchoff to a filament modeled as a 5 ohm resistor and get the currents must be equal? Also how does the signal current enter this 5 ohm resistor?

The way i see it is the current enters the resistor from various points along the 5 ohm gradient and exits from one side or the other based on the impedance relationships. (hence the need to visualize multiple taps for current entry along the length of the filament, the simplest model of this being the pair of 2.5 ohm resistors with the signal injected at the midpoint)

the only thing kirchoff says is the current entering the resistor (from the middle) must equal the current exiting the resistor (from the ends).
