how do you not ground the battery? we are talking DHT's here aren't we?you mention a CT resistor above, so lets assume a pair of 25 ohm resistors in series across the filament with the connection grounded (fixed bias).
Looking at the impedance to ground from each filament pin I see two paths. The most obvious path is simply through the 25 ohm resistor to ground, The other path consists of the impedance of the battery in series with the other 25 ohm resistor to ground. Since the batteries internal impedance is typically a fraction of an ohm, I still see half of your audio current traversing the battery.
