Aha, finally ... I see the problem Tre! I once thought as you do that a tube is just a variable resistor until I was corrected. Consider a tube as a (fixed) voltage source with a series rp and maybe things will fall into place ... it did for me in respect to OP impedance and a tube's ability to drive a load symmetrically both positive and negative. If a tube were like a variable resistor it couldn't do this. To take it a step further it is the changing nature of the tube's series rp with changing current that gives rise to the tube's distortion.One day when you have some spare time (ha), experiment with this on the bench.
Also I did not wish to imply that two SE cascaded stages are push pull. All I'm saying is that it is possible to achieve some of the properties of PP's cancellation abilities with careful selection of the right tubes, loads and operating points. Indeed I believe it's possible to cancel some of the odd harmonic distortion as well.
