You are right that the audible effect has never been proven. I don't think I said that (and I didn't intend to)Ok. It seemed that way as even though actual audible differences hadn't been established, you expected those claiming there were no audible differences to say they were full of shit.
The point I was making is that the dialog (or dialogue) has changed. The "conventional wisdom" moves, but at any instant in time people tend to polarize around the current position.
True. Especially in high-end audio.
One of the things I admire most about Junji Kimura vis a vis the Gaincard is that he had the balls to completely thumb his nose at a large chunk of the high-end "conventional wisdom."
The "conventional wisdom" was that integrated circuits were bad. Opamps were bad. Gobs of negative feedback was bad. Etc.
The Gaincard employed all of the above and more. And before you knew it, even Harvey Rosenberg was dubbing it the best solid state amplifier he'd heard.
What I find funny about the Black Gate debate is the notion that the "conventional wisdom" is that electrolytics must be inferior to films, when this is the opposite of the prior conventional wisdom (in audio, at least).
I went back and read your original post and I'm a bit confused about something.
You said:
I love this, because the naysayers are now having to say that film caps are better than electrolytics. THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF 30 YEARS AGO.
Who of the "naysayers" was saying 30 years ago that electrolytic caps were superior to film caps?
I know that some more modern "yeasayers" have been saying they prefer Black Gate electrolytics to film caps in certain applications. But I don't ever recall any "naysayers" saying electrolytics were superior to film caps.
