I propose a contest.

You're right. While I may have my view of who is the most responsible, in situations like this no one is ever totally clean.

Moreover, the behavior of one person today may be reflective of grudges going back decades - grudges that have life of their own and get passed on from person to person, generation to generation.

I remember in the early days of TAS (or possibly Stereophile), the magazine’s writers had attended a dinner sponsored for members of the audio press. They described how arrogant and dismissive Julian Hirsch was toward writers from the underground press (as it was then called). So where all of this feuding really began is anyone’s guess.

My proposal for a contest: let’s see who will first step forward and exert a concerted effort to break the chain of personal attacks and carry on civil discourse in place thereof.
