Robert:Good advice - particularly the "cheer up" part.
I have relied on AES in the past and I have a little knowledge of electronics. There are a number of good sites that present basic electronics in easily understandable language.
However, as far as I know, there is little information or discussion available anywhere dealing with high end audio cutting edge issues, such as the work jneutron has been doing with wires. His work may not lead to any immediate tangible advancement, but he is certainly contributing to our body of knowledge. Yet he has been constantly critized for doing nothing other than trying to pursue the truth in an objective fashion.
Wouldn't it be nice if there were 50 jenutrons (from both inside and outside the industry) pursuing many different high-end cutting edge issues and sharing their pursuits with us mere mortals.
Relatively few engineers outside the industry seem to care. Those insiders often want to protect trade secrets or don't want to put up with dysfunctional conditions that are often evident in technical discussion on high end boards.
Leaving grudges, personalities, dogma, vendettas, censorship, ego and the need-to-be-right-at-all-costs out of techical discussions shouldn't be that difficult. We'd still be living in caves if humans had not developed orderly, rational, objective ways to share knowledge and information with the goal of advancing the condition of man. Why can't that be accomplished in something as inconsequential as high end audio?
