Soulfood,I'm not sure I'm following your train of thought. I thought I was being quite clear on this. As long as....
1) I'm not throwing my hard earned $$$$$ away buying components that provide improvements that don't exist.
2) When I finally get that new audio component home, I like what I hear and that is based on it sounding like live unamplified music to me, it makes me tap my foot and it brings a smile to my face.
Then NOTHING ELSE REALLY MATTERS!
Now soulfood as far as your response to #1 of: "Quite frankly, who does? Anyone in your group categories or the owners of the Pioneer or Krell in your example?" I'm quite sure that many people buy new audio components and these new components provide "improvements" that don't exist quite often. I've seen friends so this and in the past I've been guilty of this as well. Sometimes people buy a new component only because they have to have the newest and most expensive amp CD player etc and I'm sure they believe this purchase of a newest component from their favorite manufacturer makes an audible improvement. Other times people buy an audio component just because it sounds different and they equate different with being better. However whether or not any of these purchases actually make an audible improvement is often questionable.
As for your problem with #2 ending with a question, in all honesty I'd say that's just your problem. I ended #2 with the question raised to see if anyone could come up with a reasonable objection to why #2's statement wasn't a valid method of determining I'm satisfied with my purchase based on the criteria I provided.
I could just as easily reworded #2 to: When I finally get that new audio component home, if I like what I hear and that is based on it sounding like live unamplified music to me, if it makes me tap my foot and if it brings a smile to my face, then nothing else really matters! Does that now make you happy soulfood?
Personally it appears to me that you just like to disagree for disagreement's sake! Everyone else seemed to understand what I was saying and I hope you do as well now. But if you don't or wish to continue raising points in my post you object to, rest assured my system meets #1 & #2 above, so NOTHING ELSE REALLY MATTERS to me!
