Re: How Can YOU Be Sure About Anything In Audio?

For me its quite simple Tubeguy, I go to live, unamplified, concerts frequently (heard Beethoven's 5th Symphony 2 weeks ago...utterly amazing to hear it live) and this is my standard and guides my listening preferences and buying decisions. Live is correct is the one thing I can be sure of and WAS the basis for The Absolute Sound (now though they seem to have lost their way).

I realize that in your situation it is not possible to go to concerts, I am sorry to hear that. However; what I have noticed is when people have no frame of reference but other gear (ie. they don't attend concerts) they can end up with all kinds of crazy sounding systems sometimes not bad but often far from realistic. I have made some real strides in the last two years where my system stands up nicely to live music...at least for chamber music size pieces. Let's just say that now when I return from a fantastic live concert that turning on my system is not a huge let down.

I hope that you recover so that you can attend as many live concerts as possible and then you will KNOW what audio SHOULD sound like.
