You know, there is another angle on this kind of thing. There is also the possibility of showing that a signal that passes through one cable IS identical to one that has passed through a different cable. "Sounds different" is a tough claim to make if the signals involved are the same.There is software that can take signals from common program material, recorded through different cables (or with and without various tweaks applied, or other system changes), and subtract them leaving only what's different, so you can listen only to the DIFFERENCE between them. Electrical signals are physical phenomena, not religious beliefs -- they're not immune to analysis.
If the signal turns out to be identical, then if it doesn't sound identical, then there is something other than electrical signals involved -- perhaps the cable affecting the listener, rather than signal or the equipment.
