Re: sound of rectifiers

Hi,
What a tube in an amplifier circuit wants from the power supply, so that it can perform to its optimum is pure DC of unwavering voltage with no AC artifacts. For this reason I am a fan of solid state rectification using fast soft recovery diodes, a choke and then tons of B+ capitance (1000 mfd) and naturally a very capable transformer.
When done correctly the power supply will have near regulated characteristics, of battery like DC character. Anything less and you are also listening to the power supply.
