that most gear is highly compromised, even units that are considered to be "price no object" designs. Nobody with a brain in their head would argue that a toroid is "better" in terms of performance than an iron core transformer. It is just cheaper and easier to work with. The fact that "audiophiles" have been led to believe that toroids are superior was just another audio myth that was perpetuated by the manufacturers and the media. Kind of like how most "audiophiles" think that vented designs are superior to sealed designs. This is yet another "more for less" situation with accuracy and quality of sound being the first thing sacrificed. As usual, vented designs are cheaper to build, so that could be why most manufacturers think that they are "better". "Better as in "better for the profit margin". Sean
