Dan,With respect, all I did was post the results I heard after replacing:
* 30VA 15-0-15v transformers (ie. 1 amp per secondary)with:
* 160VA 15-0-15v transformers (ie. 5.3amps per secondary)in the power supplies of my active crossovers.
As the power draw is only 65ma, I would have thought a 1 amp secondary was plenty - that's why I chose 30VA transformers to start with.
They have been working fine for a year before I made the change but they sounded better afterwards. The power supply voltages were checked when I first built them - ie. before I listened to them with the original 30VA transformers - so I don't understand why you seem to think they need checking after putting in higher-VA, same voltage transformers.
The power supplies are not my design - they were designed by someone who designs/makes amps for a living. However, I shall certainly ask him why he decided 680uF was enough for 65ma of load.
I posted my experiences simply to interest others who might contemplate a similar change in some other source component they might have.
Regards,
Andy
