Which course in particular covered the "squiggly lines on a scope" analysis?

Here's the circular argument:

(If you don't get this, I guess I can't help...)

"In the case of a cable, that the same electrical signal is found at the load end with the source and the load connected as is found under identical circumstanes at the output of the source when it is disconnected within clearly specified limits of electrical tolerance"

(BTW: Unless the load is infinite impedance, this statement cannot be true, and has little to do with the cable..)

What are the specified limits of electrical tolerance for reproduction of music? What's the threshold below which differences don't matter?

How about no artifacts above -100dB, is that low enough? 120dB? Over what bandwidth? 20Hz - 20kHz? How about, say 1Hz - 100kHz?

Where do these limits come from? They're arbitrary.

So, you're saying that the differences will be inaudible if they fall below the threshold of audibility? Now there's a concept....
