Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

So what.

It seems that either you or Mr. Ott are confused, perhaps both.

The ad was for an interconnect, while Mr. Ott refers to zip cords. I sincerely hope he is not using zip cords for interconnects!

In any case, what is the big deal? Someone is selling IC's for $4000?

So what? It is the internet, and electronic hawking of goods has allowed any goober with a notion he can sell a gimmick to folks, that he can make a buck (or four thousand). All kinds of folks sell all kinds of things on the internet, not just IC's. People sell lousy speakers, home-made amps, unbranded Chineese origin CD players as SOTS wonders, all manner of accessories, again, so what? Does that mean that all the audio components and accessories ever sold are all snake-oil? It must. :-)

Aftermarket audio cables serve a purpose, as do many of the more advanced DIY cable designs. OEM IC's and zip cord SUCK!

Anyone with a system more advanced than low end mid-fi (total expediture of $1000 or more) should investigate using something other than OEM interconnects and zip cords, or it is quite likely their system will be compromised in terms of the overall sound quality.

Does this mean that they need a $4000 IC to acheive audio nirvana? Not at all, and the implication that ALL aftermarket audio cables are of the same ilk is ridiculous and offensive.
