Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Axiom made a good observation

That there needs to be consistancy throughout the chain - this is assuming you think cables make a difference. Mixing and matching seems to me to be a less than ideal approach from source to amp to speaker.

I remeber trying out a to me expensive $100.00 MIT that was far worse than the stock El cheap speaker cables they were running - so I can;t deny a difference but the money made the bass flabby and the highs rolled off - my conclusion was that wiring are bad tone controls or Equalizers. That might have been a jump to a quick conclusion.

Now I know my Audio Note speakers are silver wired - and they seem to be freaks about Silver. OS judging by what Axiom says it would make logical sense to use this wiring throughout the chain(AN implies it as well) that their amps and interconnects are silver wired and their speaker cable. Ideally not mixing copper --- or at least using the wiring the company used when designing the entire audio chain. Few companies design the entire audio chain however and buying some off the shelf MIT or other expensive cable may be far far far worse than a very cheap wire that is consistant with the wiring in the speakers itself.

This is assuming people believe in speaker differences - I would not mind hearing an all Audio Note system wired with copper and then the same system wired with their upscale silver. I did hear the AN J/L wired in copper versus the J/Spe wired in silver - and this was a startling difference - but I can;t attribute it solely do to the wire because the speaker's cabinet was chipboard versus Russian Birch - but the treble was smoother considerably with the Silver wired version(less cabinet involment to be sure).

It's quite interesting - system matching seems to be the biggest key not how much you spend.
