Oh, I see. You were talking about the instantaneous frequency, and I was talking about the fundamental of the spectrum.Although the spectrum analyzer display doesn't have a completely intuitive relationship to the phase noise / jitter, the narrow band nature of the measurement does allow very good sensitivity for a high-quality analyzer. A tradeoff I guess.
